Description:
Palestrina's six-voice Mass "Missa sine nomine" was highly acclaimed even during his lifetime, and is known as the work that J.S. Bach transcribed and arranged for his study of the classical style because it is written in what is called a solid and orderly style (= Palestrina style). This time, we are going to perform the work at the Garton Carpenter in Cambridge. This performance by the Girton College Choir of Cambridge attempts to reconstruct the Mass as a new Mass by incorporating a piece by Ingenieri, a contemporary composer, and another piece by Palestrina herself into the main body of the Mass. The Mass, which at the time of its composition was born amid a trend to dismiss all secular elements from mass music, has been transformed into a work with a uniquely modern flavor by incorporating a variety of new ideas.
