Description:

In French, "Cor" means horn or horn. This album introduces some fascinating French horn works of the 19th century. In the time of Haydn and Mozart, natural horns were used without valves and only natural overtones were pronounced, but around 1814, valves appeared and the use of valved horns gradually spread. However, many French players continued to love the "piston horn," which evolved from the natural horn, even during the Romantic period, and composers such as Gounod wrote pieces and methods for this instrument. Hornist Anneke Scott uses this soft-sounding instrument to perform 19th century French horn music with piano accompaniment by Erard. 2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Gounod's birth, and includes some rare works by Gounod.
