A collection of works by English composer Rodney Newton. Originally active as a timpani and percussionist in orchestras, the composer wrote many works for brass band, but his works for orchestra have been largely unknown. The two symphonies recorded here for the first time are in the tradition of "English orchestral works" reminiscent of works by Vaughan Williams and Malcolm Arnold, and are majestic music with depictions of great nature and lightly colored orchestral techniques. The unique atmosphere of the slow movement in particular leaves a strong impression on the listener. Naxos Japan
