Douglas McCormack, one of Tortoise's founding members who continues to support the band; Ken "Bandi K" Brown, an early member of Tortoise and Gastr del Sol who served as a key figure on this album and handled mixing; Curtis Harvey of Rex, who connected Bandi and Chris; and Jim O'Rourke, who contributed to the album. Bandy K" Brown, Chris Brokaw (formerly of Cam, who gained renewed attention with the Codine reunion), Curtis Harvey of Rex (who connected Bandy and Chris), and Tim Burr (who supported many of Jim O'Rourke's projects, including Wilco and Sonic Youth) reunite. Their new album 'III', their first in 25 years, inherits the acoustic, minimal, rustic, and delicate guitar ensembles characteristic of their past two works. Yet it also showcases new approaches: the noisy edge of hardcore-rooted rock, ambient electronic sounds, and drones. With diverse sounds changing from song to song (and even within a single track), it stands as a culmination of each member's individual activities.
