The long-awaited debut release from Cut Worms, a project by Brooklyn, NY-based SSW/multi-instrumentalist Max Clark! Produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen, who has worked with Whitney and The Lemon Twigs, Brooklyn, NY-based SSW Max Clark releases his long-awaited debut album "Hollow Ground" on Jagjaguwar! Produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen, the album features a pop ballad sound with influences from the Everly Brothers, who were active in the LA 50s and 60s,The songs bring warm nostalgia, woven into poetic storytelling as if memorized by instinct. His songwriting explores and simultaneously vividly evokes the invincibility and potential of youth, but it is done so through the lens of someone who has experienced that era in the past. Clark plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and lap steel, and performs almost all of the instrumental parts on the record himself.Debut album featuring original compositions by Shizka Ueda and improvisation sessions with local improvisational musicians from New York and Ann Arbor, where she recorded. Lyrically, the album represents Shizka's worldview as a daily psycho-clinical practitioner. Mixed by Sean Schuster-Craig, the album features a chugging falsetto voice over SSC samples for an avant-pop finish. In "hidamari," a collage of nature sounds and musical performances tells an overlapping story of dreams and reality, and in "Yudatsu" nostalgia of boyhood rises in the overlapping sounds of daily life. The improvised sessions inserted in between consist of various instrumental sounds, including daily necessities and toys, sometimes lyrically, sometimes comically, and gently fill the space of the album.
