Spatial Modern has undergone several - no doubt conscious - changes in its musicality and performance style, while at the same time remaining on a solidly consistent course. This album is the highest achievement of a group of exceptional musicians in a vivid and strong present tense. - 17 years after the formation of Atsushi Sasaki's (HEADZ) band and 14 years after their CD debut, the genre-transcending three-piece band Kukan Gendai, who have received critical acclaim even from overseas, released their first completely new album on a domestic label in 11 years. The band has released on Ideologic Organ, a label run by Stephen O'Malley of Sunn O)))), under the Vienna, Austria-based experimental electronic music label Editions Mego (2019's "Palm"), and ZURERU, a collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto ( a 12-inch record made in 2018. He also participated in Sakamoto's remix of his 2017 album ASYNC, ASYNC - REMODELS, along with Oneohtrix Point Never, ARCA, Yves Tumor, Cornelius and others.The band has also participated in the event series "MODE 2018" in London, UK, curated by Sakamoto), and the documentary film "Se se" (directed by Kei Nanazato of "Nemuri Hime" and "Carefree Sister" fame; to be released in 2021), which documents a live reading with the poet Gozo Yoshimasu, among many other cutting-edge artists. The three-piece band Kukan Gendai will release their new album "Tracks".In 2021, the independent label "soto" released the 5-song "Tentei" (physical only on 12" vinyl), and in 2022, the emerging cassette label based in Bloomington, Indiana and Mexico, known for releases by Sam Gendell, Little Wings, and others, After the release of the six-song "After" (physical only on cassette tape) on ULYSSA, the first original full-length album in four years (since "Palm") and the first original album on HEADZ since 2012's "Spatial Contemporary 2", HEADZ will be releasing its first album on the new Kyoto-based label, "Space Contemporary 2", in 2022. This will be the second release from HEADZ's new Kyoto-based label, Leftbrain, following SJQ's "Torus" (2020). The album was recorded at Kyoto's "Gai" (a live music club run by Spatial Modern) with DUB SQUAD/ROVO's MASHIKO JU as the engineer (in charge of recording, mixing, and mastering).The CD includes liner notes in English and Japanese by Atsushi Sasaki, a thinker, writer and representative of HEADZ, and Toshiya Tsunoda, a leading Japanese sound creator and artist known for his field recording works.
