The debut album by Fairport Convention, a pioneer of British folk rock, was released in 1968. Although later known as a band that electrified British trad, the sound of this album was rather strongly influenced by American West Coast folk rock, and was described in the UK as "like Jefferson Airplane. The album is a bold attempt at the latest American songwriting, with covers of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and others, as well as original compositions, and is a must-listen. In particular, Judy Daible's clear voice and the guitar of Richard Thompson, who was 18 years old, radiate freshness and elegance. Although the album did not do well commercially at the time of its release, it is now being reevaluated as a valuable record of the "eve of the birth of British folk rock.
