This is the first work by Sapporo-based pianist Hiroko Nakahata. Her music, inspired by Ryo Fukui and Stanley Cowell, has a refreshing beauty and contemplative depth. This is the first album by Sapporo-based pianist Hiroko Nakahata. Nakahata has been performing energetically at various venues, including the jazz live house "Slow Boat," which Ryo Fukui presided over. His sincere and unconstrained musicality has a depth and freshness that captivates listeners. It is no wonder that Nakahata has a large following among men and women of all ages. This self-produced album was recorded with the help of skilled musicians Yasushi Yamashita (el-b, key), Kazutetsu Takemura (ds), and Kenji Furudate (g, vo). Varying from solo, duo, and trio configurations, the group spins Stanley Cowell's "Equipoise," George Caples' "Helen's Song," and Mary Lou Williams' "Baby Man" with great brilliance.Above all, Nakahata's original songs "Our Secret Spot in Heaven" and "Goodnight Grief," which are written with a clear and supple touch, are what make this album extraordinary. These songs are not only beautiful, but also have a strong narrative that seems to encompass light and shade. The album is full of variety, from covers to originals, but it is a work filled with a single, dignified line of persuasive power. This is a work of great significance and appeal, not only to conventional jazz listeners, but also to those interested in rare groove and spiritual jazz.
