Ethiopiques is one of the most popular series of compilation albums by Buda Musique of France, and is well-known to world music fans. In order to reaffirm the importance of the series and, by extension, the appeal of Ethiopian music, Rice Records is reissuing a series of titles from the series, which are now hard to find in the domestic market. The fifteenth release in the series is "Swinging Addis," a compilation of sounds that can be categorized as R&B and soul music that was once popular in Ethiopia. Included are all the recordings under the name of Girma Beyene (4 songs), which were re-released in the previously re-released "Ethiopeak 30 - Mistakes on Purpose" (Rice BDR-3259), as well as a number of songs by Mahmud Ahmed, "Ethiopia's Otis Redding", "Ethiopia's The album also features the voices of popular singers such as Mahmoud Ahmed, the "Ethiopian Otis Redding," and Alemayehu Echete, the "Ethiopian Elvis," as well as Bata Gebre-Haywet, Remma Demiseu, Tesfa-Mariam Kidane and Samuel Belay, and a number by Getachew Kassa, known for his hit song "Tezeta. (C)RS
