Description:

Formed in France in 1973 around the talented pianist and composer Cyril Verdo, Clear Light is both Verdo’s solo project and a progressive rock band. Having received a classical music education from a young age, he joined the rock band “BABYLON” in 1971 and subsequently began his career in the rock music scene in earnest. Inviting various guest musicians for each album, they released works showcasing a wide range of musical styles—including their signature lyrical phrases, classical/symphonic arrangements, and electronic sounds—and continue to enjoy strong support from dedicated progressive rock fans to this day. Now, the four albums released by Clearlight in the early 1970s, along with their latest album released in 2014, make their debut in a new Japan-exclusive UHQCD/paper sleeve edition! This release is their second album, recorded in 1975. Like their debut album *Clearlight Symphony*, Christian Boulet (g) and Gilbert Armand (ds) continue to participate, and Joel Dugrenot (b)—a founding member of "ZOA," a band spun off from the French progressive rock group Magma—joins the lineup and plays a significant role in the arrangements. Also noteworthy is the guest participation of David Cross (violin), formerly of King Crimson, and Amanda & Anne (vocals), who served as backing vocalists for Hatfield & the North. While the album is essentially a fantastical psychedelic/symphonic rock work centered on Verdot’s romantic, lyrical piano sound—much like its predecessor—the musicality of the guest members has added a stronger, more aggressive jazz-rock flavor compared to the previous release. David Cross’s playing, reminiscent of King Crimson, adds a touch of color to the album’s fantastical and enchanting atmosphere. This must-have release for fans includes three bonus tracks, including remixes of songs from the album. Japanese Edition UHQCD *Original LP-style E-type single paper sleeve packaging (includes obi strip and a bilingual translation of Cyril Verdo’s English album liner notes) Cyril Verdo (keyboards, gong, conga) François Janot (keyboards, flute, saxophone) Bob Boissadeau (keyboards) Christos Stathopoulos (drums, percussion) Joël Dugrenault (b, vo) Guests David Cross (vn) Christian Boulet (g) Gilbert Armand (perc, ds) Amanda & Anne (cho) Bruno Verdot (keyboards, conga) Brigitte Roy (vo)
