Description:

Commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth. Schumann, full of the joy of creation and discovery! This is the sublimation of orchestral art. The close "dialogue" between conductor and orchestra is at its peak! Mahler is a genius at reading Schumann. He made the important things audible and retracted the less important things. Hubert Sudern's 2009 release of Bruckner, Symphony Orchestra was highly acclaimed in terms of both performance and recording, winning both the Best Album Award (for Japanese performance and Best Recording) at the 22nd Music Pen Club Music Awards, and the follow-up release of Schumann's complete symphonies (4 in all) in the Mahler edition. The Schumann & Brahms Cycle - a combination of Schumann's four symphonies and Brahms' four concertos - was held at Suntory Hall on four occasions from May 2009 to March 2010, and was recorded live. -This is a live recording of the concert. After 13 years as Music Director of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Hubert Sudern became Music Director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 2004. The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra has been steadily enhancing its capabilities with the Schubert Cycle in 2008 and the Schumann & Brahms Cycle in 2009. This is the first time for the orchestra to perform the complete Schumann symphonies in Mahler's edition in Japan, and Sudanne said of Mahler's edition, "Mahler is a genius at reading Schumann. Mahler was a genius at reading Schumann, making the important things audible and retracting the less important ones. He said, "Mahler made the important things easier to hear and retracted the less important things. Mahler's corrections and conductor Südanne's interpretations clearly show Schumann's compositional intentions, resulting in a complete set of Schumann symphonies that is full of the joys of creation and discovery. The concertmasters are Nikitin for Nos. 1 and 3, and Kazuhiro Takagi for Nos. 4 and 2, and their respective talents are also reflected in the performance. The order of the pieces is No. 1, No. 4, No. 2, and No. 3, in the order they were composed. Universal Music/IMS
