From the super classic repertoire to the original 12 cellists and Therichen's timpani concerto, which you can listen to while comparing with the masterpieces of studio recordings. A collection of strong live performances that will make you bow down to the extraordinary authority of Karajan! Following the first volume (BPHR-240291) of 23 performances from the 1950s and 1960s, this second series of live recordings of Karajan's unpublished works features 20 performances from the 1970s. The original analog masters were digitized using the latest technology and newly remastered in 24-bit format. All recordings are in stereo and are available as SACD hybrids. Karajan, who developed a deep relationship with the Berliner Philharmoniker in the 1960s, fully demonstrated his great ability in the 1970s. The program, which is centered on symphonies by German composers with occasional Bach and modern and contemporary works, is reminiscent of many of the great studio recordings of Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker that we are all familiar with. The charm of this edition is that you can hear all of these recordings live.For Karajan, the challenge of making the orchestra sound like his own instrument through live performances and his insistence on recording the perfect sound in the studio for recording are two sides of the same coin. The intense enthusiasm of the live performances, which took place in parallel with the creation of numerous masterpieces, further enhances the brilliant Karajan sound.
