The '60s saw a folk revival led by Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger in the prewar years, but in the midst of the anti-war movement in Vietnam and the civil rights movement, there was an even greater call for "self-written" protest songs. At the same time, the Kingston Trio and other groups were creating a modern folk boom, and folk songs, with their message and affinity for popular music, were widely performed by the public. Folk songs are still loved around the world for their beautiful, simple sound that can only be created by purely acoustic instruments.Please enjoy these folk classics while thinking back to those days when tradition and innovation were powerfully intermingled.
