Description:
Furtwängler returned to the world of music after the war and actively traveled with the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Wiesbaden concert in 1949 is known as a superb performance, especially the Bra 4. Hidekazu Yoshida said, "The first sound of the violin alone is already out of the ordinary. <The opening note, pulled by the violin alone, is already out of the ordinary," Yoshida praised excitedly. The slowness of the opening of the first movement is unusual and unique among Furtwängler's many Bra 4s. The wailing of the second movement is also unique to the master. The conscious emphasis on the trombones in the finale is simply astonishing. Mozart is also the quintessence of Furtwängler, a tragic artist, and there are moments when the listener is almost frightened. The sound quality of this concert varied from piece to piece, with Pfitzner and Brahms sounding vivid, and Mozart a bit muffled, but the sound quality was high for the time and sufficient for immersing oneself in tragic music on a long autumn night.
