Twenty years later, the second release of the "Songbook," "Kare No," features the same soprano as the first album, Yukari Nonoshita, and includes a series of songs that were performed in a contemporary kagura performance called "Tamatare" in Fukuoka City in March 2023. Tamatare" means "two beads" (kanju and manju) and is a metaphor for the ebb and flow of the tide. The sea god Wadarumi controls the flow of the tide by manipulating these beads. This modern kagura is an adaptation of an anecdote between Azumi Isora and Empress Jingu concerning the ebb and flow of the tidal beads. An important part of the "Mikagura" passed down through the court is a kagura song called "Achime-saho. This kagura song is said to be based on the incantation uttered by Empress Jingu when she called on Azumi Isora, who was at the bottom of the sea, to receive a dried pearl from the sea god when she crossed over to Silla to conquer the three Koreas. And according to the theory of Nobuo Orikuchi, the place where Isora was invoked was the waters at the tip of Shiga Island, located in Hakata Bay. In the modern kagura "Tamadaru," four waka poems from the Manyoshu and a poem from the Kojiki were sung according to a plot created by shrine researcher Runa Ayasugi, while incorporating this "Achime-sakuho," with a melody based on data on changes in the potential of seaweed that lived in the waters of Shiga Island. The performance was set up in the south corner of the circular hall of ACROS Fukuoka, the venue for the event, with the sound of tidal currents recorded underwater in the waters of Shiga Island in the background. The performance of "Tamadare" was performed. The title of this album, "Kare No," is one of the songs from the Kojiki, the oldest extant collection of Japanese poetry. The song describes a series of events: a boat is made from a large tree, salt is made by burning the boat, and a zither is made from the remaining piece of wood, which sounds like seaweed swaying "saya-saya". In this album, six linked songs including "Kareeno" are included in the "Botanical Pattern Songbook" along with tidal sounds recorded under the sea, and the celebratory poem "Aeno-kata-no" is chanted by Ishikawa Takashi amidst the sounds of the Japanese zither. The myth of the sea surrounding Shiga Island is engraved in the kagura song "Achime-sakuho. The ancient wisdom of the sea people, symbolized by the ebb and flow beads, is also reflected in this album. This album is dedicated to Shiga Island and the ancient sea people. (Rats Pack Records)
