Description:
This is a compilation disc focusing on Ethiopian blues "teseta" left on the three major Ethiopian labels, "Amha Records". Ethiopiques" is one of the most popular series of compilation discs of BUDA MUSIQUE in France, and is well-known to world music fans. In Japan, Alterpop has been in charge of distribution with the exception of a few titles, some of which have been delayed in distribution and some of which have not been released in Japan. In order to reaffirm the importance of the series and, by extension, the appeal of Ethiopian music, Rice Records is reissuing a series of titles from the series that are now difficult to find in the domestic market. The 11 titles released so far have all been well received. The twelfth release in the series, which has never been released for domestic distribution, focuses on the melancholy music of "tzeta," also known as Ethiopian blues. Tzeta" is a form of music that is known as a kind of blues or ballad that expresses the feelings of nostalgia, love, and melancholy (similar to Portugal's saudade).In 1972, singer Getachew Kassa released a song in this form called "Teseta"(12)(13), an up-tempo number arranged in a soul style(13) that was especially popular among rebellious youth as a symbol of the upheaval in Ethiopian society at the time. It was a big hit at the time. Incidentally, this song sold as many as 5,000 copies in the Ethiopian music market, where big hits at the time were said to sell 2,000 to 3,000 copies, making it the biggest hit in the history of Ethiopian music. This is a compilation of "all about Tzeta" using the sound sources (recorded from 1970 to 1974) of Amha Records, one of the three major Ethiopian labels that own a large number of songs related to "Tzeta," and is one of the unique albums in the Ethiopian Peak series.In addition to the example of Getachew Kassa's track, there are other "tzetas" sung by popular singers such as Seyfou Johannes (5) and Mahmoud Ahmed (8), as well as tracks by Alemayehu Eshete (3), (6), (9) and Mulatou Astatouke (7), who are the namesake for "tzetas" as a form of "tzeta". The album also includes tracks by Aremaille Echete (3), (6), (9) and Mulatu Astatuke (7), offering a variety of "tzetas" by a variety of artists. This is a great compilation that invites you into the deep and thoughtful world of "Tzeta," which has a dolorous and lewd atmosphere. This is another must have for any Ethiopian fan.
