This is a collection of works by Johann Baptiste Vanhal (1739-1813), one of the most important composers born in Bohemia and a bridge from the Classical to the early Romantic period. He was a music teacher and composer in Vienna, and wrote a vast number of works, including more than 70 symphonies, 100 string quartets, and numerous religious works. Although his instrumental works are not so important, the caprices in this album are all full of improvisation and fun. The piano virtuoso Michal Tsalka shows off his brilliant technique in this 2013 recording. (C)RS
