This is an exhilarating and exuberant record of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra's first performance at the Proms, in 1992. The St. Petersburg Philharmonic was founded in 1882 as the St. Petersburg Court Orchestra by the Petersburg Philharmonic Society, which had the ability to perform Beethoven's "Solemn Mass" for the first time in the world. The orchestra was reorganized during the Russian Revolution of 1917, and Koussevitzky was appointed as its first permanent conductor, but it continued to undergo turbulent times, undergoing several name changes and conductor changes. The turmoil was quelled by the great conductor Mravinsky, who took up the post of permanent conductor in 1938 at the age of 35, and with his outstanding technique and charisma, quickly raised the orchestra to the top of the world's top ranks.Mravinsky held this post throughout his life, and after his death in 1988, the brilliant Temirkanov brought more glory to the orchestra. This Proms live performance is the perfect fruition of his own personality and the traditions he inherited from his predecessors. The symphony "Manfred" has the "last modification" that is well-known among the enthusiasts. The version in which the coda of the first movement is reminiscent and ends tragically is different from the usual version, and you can feel Temirkanov's thoughts about this piece.
