Kono'e Hidemaro, Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra

Description:

50th anniversary of his death! The Oyakata of the Japanese Music World: Hidemaro Chikamori and the Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra, 1964-1971, 4CD set! In his later years, Hidemaro Chikamori developed a close relationship with the Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra. Konoe participated in training camps and passionately guided the students during long rehearsals. At times, he inspired, scolded, and encouraged students and taught them the best-kept secret of music. The grandeur and exuberance of Brahms and Mozart. Wagner, Mahler, and Richard Strauss, whose music is deeply moving. Schumann and Joseph Strauss, musicians directly descended from the Romantic school, approach the listener with bold expression. Beethoven's dignity. Chikanori has proven to be a great conductor comparable to Furtwängler. The 64-page booklet includes rare photographs, a tribute to Chikanori written by Fuyuki Kanno including testimonies from members of the orchestra at the time, and an analysis by Kenshi Kaneko of the secrets behind the revision of Chikanori's version. <Hidemaro Konoe (1898-1973) was born in Tokyo on November 18, 1898, the second son of Atsumaro Konoe, the 29th head of the Konoe family, the first of the five regent houses, and a politician who served as President of the House of Peers and the Gakushuin. He is considered the father of the Japanese orchestra and studied in Europe from 1923. He studied conducting under Erich Kleiber, Max von Schillings, and Georg Schumann. In Paris, he studied composition with Dandy. He later worked on the revision of many classical works, most notably Beethoven's, and his great work is still the subject of study as the "Chikamori Version. After returning to Japan, he founded the Japan Symphony Orchestra. He later reorganized the orchestra and presided over the New Symphony Orchestra (now the NHK Symphony Orchestra) for 10 years. In 1937, he conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra and the NBC Symphony Orchestra in the U.S. In 1947, he organized the Toho Symphony Orchestra (now the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra) and the Konoe Orchestra (the predecessor of the ABC Symphony Orchestra), and in 1960, he toured Europe with the ABC Symphony Orchestra. In 1960, he toured Europe with the ABC Symphony Orchestra.Thereafter, he was a guest conductor with the Japan Philharmonic, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and other orchestras until his death. His nickname was "Oyakata," which is a corruption of "Okan," rather than "Oyakata," and is a reminder of his artistic style and dignity. He was a member of the Japan Art Academy. <Founded in 1916, the Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra is a student orchestra with a glorious history of more than 100 years. At the time of its establishment, it was the only symphony orchestra in the Kansai region and made a great contribution to the Kansai music world. Even during the turmoil of World War II and the aftermath of the Great Hanshin Earthquake, the orchestra gave regular performances twice a year, but due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus in 2020, performances were suspended for two years. The orchestra has developed by inviting world-class conductors such as Emanuel Mettel, Hidemaro Chikamori, Takashi Asahina, Kazuo Yamada, Yutaka Sado, Michiyoshi Inoue, and Tadaaki Otaka as guest conductors. In addition to its biannual subscription concerts, the orchestra also conducts a wide variety of activities, including concert tours throughout Japan. The repertoire includes many pieces that are considered difficult for amateurs to play, and the orchestra boasts a high standard nationwide as a student orchestra. Tobu Shoji Co.
