It straddles jazz-rock and fusion lightly. Mellow, stormy, and groovy. The sound of "Beyond" was born in 1980, and it is still vivid and fresh even after listening to it now. Soul Media, led by Jiro Inagaki, played a role in the development of jazz rock in Japan. The final album under the same name was "Memory Lane," recorded in 1980. Inagaki said of this album, "We tried to create this work while predicting the fate of fusion music," and it is true that the sound is completely distinct from ordinary fusion music. The mellow and emotional "Memory Lane," the stormy and refreshing "I Will Give You Samba," and the groovy and edgy "Take My Hand" are all part of this album. The sound that was created with Norio Maeda, a close ally of the band, is a sound that looks "beyond the beyond," and the songs, arrangements, and performances are all of an extraordinary high level of perfection.
