Description:
<The world's first stereo recording of the complete symphonies of Sibelius. The world's first stereo recording of the complete symphonies of Sibelius, highly acclaimed overseas. The legendary performance with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra is now available on SACD for the first time! Excellent recording by Shunsuke Wakabayashi. Remastered from the original analog master tapes owned by Nippon Columbia, this is the world's first SACD release! New commentary included! The complete Sibelius symphonies in stereo, a groundbreaking project at the time of 1962. Watanabe Ayao (1919-1990), who is best known for his Sibelius symphonies, teamed up with his mainstay Japan Philharmonic Orchestra to perform the symphonies with all his might, and the recordings have been listened to to this day. This is the first SACD release of this work, remastered from the analog master tapes owned by our company. The CD layer also uses the remastered sound source. Recorded in 1962, at the dawn of the stereo LP era, the complete Sibelius symphonies are known as a monumental set, the world's first full-length stereo recording.Conductor Akio Watanabe (1919-90) was born to a Japanese father and a Finnish mother, and was already widely recognized as a Sibelius conductor, having received the First Class Lion Medal from the Finnish government in 1958 for his work in introducing Sibelius to Japan. In addition, he founded the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in June 1956 with the support of the Bunka Hoso Broadcasting Corporation (hereafter referred to as the Japan Philharmonic). As permanent conductor and managing director, he devoted himself to the development of the orchestra, and within seven years of its founding, it became one of the leading orchestras in Japan along with the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
