The only complete Mahler cycle by the Vienna Philharmonic, remastered for the first time since its releaseThe "Mahler: The Complete Symphonies" was recorded by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with maestro Lorin Maazel (1930-2014) between 1982 and 1989. As the Philharmonic's only complete Mahler cycle and a staple of Mahler performances in the second half of the 20th century, it has been appreciated and enjoyed worldwide since its release. All 11 pieces, including the Adagio No. 10 and "Song for a Lost Child," were carefully recorded in sessions at the Musikvereinsaal when Maazel conducted the New Year's Concert every year and had strong ties with Vienna as the music director of the Vienna State Opera. The sound and beauty of each instrument, as well as the beauty of the hall tones, are captured in their entirety, and Maazel's meticulous stick work, without neglecting the smallest detail, makes this a perfect collection to appreciate the charm of Mahler's orchestration in the rich and dense sound of the Vienna Philharmonic.
