Highly recommended by the premier soul label, Daptone! This is the second album from UK-born American soul singer Jalen Ngonda, who shot to fame with his 2023 debut *Come Around and Love Me*! He delivers a vintage 60s soul sound with his most compelling asset: his powerful high-pitched voice. Just like his previous album, he’s joined by producers and arrangers Mike Buckley (who has worked with Charles Bradley) and Vincent Chiari, backed by Daptone’s top-tier team of musicians. Jalen Ngonda, born in 1994 in Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., is a soul singer currently active in the UK. Influenced by his father and grandmother, he was captivated by the sounds of 1960s Motown and Stax when he first heard them at age 11. He taught himself guitar, drums, and keyboard, honing his skills in church and beginning to compose music. At age 19, he moved to the UK to pursue a career in music full-time and enrolled at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. He honed his skills by busking in London while also focusing on songwriting. He independently released singles such as “Holler” in 2016 and “I Need You” in 2017, as well as the 2018 EP “Talking About Mary.” After receiving offers from multiple record labels, he signed with Daptone in 2022. His 2023 debut album, *Come Around and Love Me*, was highly acclaimed by musicians and critics alike, entered various UK charts, and garnered significant attention. Since then, he has proven his talent through performances at festivals such as The Sacred Souls, Freddie Gibbs’ OA, and Glastonbury, as well as collaborations with Gorillaz and Jordan Rakey.
