The 1974 debut album by Bob Newirth, who was a close friend of Bob Dylan in both public and private life, and a truly hidden classic, has been remastered and re-released on CD for the first time in 25 years! Guests include Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Booker T. Jones, Chris Hillman, Dusty Springfield, and many other musical friends of the time. The Americana sound is filled with originals, "Mercedes Benz," co-written with Janice Joplin, and covers of classic songs by Donnie Fritz and Bobby Charles. Bob Newirth was born in Ohio in 1939. He became friends with Bob Dylan in the early 60's and served as his tour manager for his UK tour in 1965 (he was featured in the movie "Don't Look Back" and the cover of the classic album "Remember Highway 61" shows his lower half). (His lower body can be seen on the cover of the famous album "Highway 61"). In 1970, he improvised "Mercedes Benz" with Janis Joplin and introduced Kris Kristofferson's song "Me and Bobby McGee" (both on the classic album "Pearl"). He then relocated to LA and released his late debut "Bob Neworth" on Asylum in 1974.The album was not a hit because it was not well publicized, but it became a cult favorite because of the participation of splendid guests and the quality of the music. After that, there was almost no significant activity, but 14 years later, in 1988, "Back to the Front" led to touring, and in 1994, "Last Day on Earth" was released, which was co-written with John Cale. He also worked as a producer and painter, but passed away in 2022.
