A reissue of the third album released in 1969 by Taj Mahal, a bluesman who has won numerous musical awards for his diverse musical style! Originally released as a two-disc set, the electric side "Giant Step" and the acoustic side "De Ole Folks at Home," this is a compilation of the two albums on one disc. The versatile Taj's original arrangements of mainly originals, including numbers by Carole King and Robbie Robertson, and country blues by Red Better, Blind Willie Johnson, and others, make this a masterpiece. Henry St. Clair Fredericks, aka Taj Mahal, was born in New York City in 1942. In the early 1960s, he studied agriculture at the University of Massachusetts and began his musical career under the name Taj Mahal. In 1966, he released the single "Candy Man" on Columbia and made an album, but it was not released (it was released in 1992), and the band disbanded. He then began his solo career, releasing "Taj Mahal" and "The Natch'l Blues" in 1968, backed by a band featuring guitarist Jessi Ed Davis, and the highly acclaimed double-disc set "Giant Step/De Ole Folks at Home" in 1969.Since then, he has continued to release world roots music albums, not only blues, but also reggae, Cajun, gospel, Hawaiian, Caribbean, and African, winning many Grammys and other music awards for "Senor Blues" in 1997 and "TajMo" in 2018. His latest release is the 2023 jazz covers album, Savoy.
