Description:

This is the definitive collection of rare 45rpm singles left by New York deep soul singer Freddie Scott during his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s for Colpix, Columbia, Shout, and other labels. The collection includes not only classic songs such as "Hey Girl", "Are You Lonely For Me" and "Cry To Me" by famous Brill Building songwriters like Goffin & King, Mann & Weill and Bert Berns, but also covers by Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Ray Charles, as well as 26 previously unreleased demo recordings. The album includes 26 songs, including covers of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and Ray Charles, as well as previously unreleased demo recordings. Freddie Scott was born in Rhode Island in 1933. He began singing in gospel groups at an early age, and after graduating from college, he began his career in earnest based in New York City. He released several singles after that, but they were not hits, and he also worked as a songwriter. In 1962, "Hey Girl" by Jerry Goffin and Carole King, released on the Colpix label, was a hit.He then moved to Columbia and released "I'll Try Again" in 1965, but it was not a success, and he moved to Bert Berns' Shout. In 1966, he released "Are You Lonely For Me," which reached No. 1 on the R&B charts. After that, he continued to have hits such as "Cry To Me" in 1967, but after the sudden death of Burns, he was no longer under contract, and although he released a few songs on small labels, he had no more hits until "I Shall Be Released" in 1970. In 2001, he made a miraculous comeback with the album "Brand New Man," but died in 2007 at the age of 74.
