This is a live performance with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, of which Kazushi Ohno has been the music director since 2015. The sound quality is excellent, and the content more than adequately conveys the chemistry and high potential of this duo. The orchestral technique is very high, but this is an impressive performance that makes full use of soft tones and deep breathing, which is a far cry from a performance that shows off technical skills. The opening trumpet sings beautifully, and the gently arcing, arching phrasing is mesmerizing. However, the singing is not thick, but well controlled, transparent, and lucid. The balance of each movement is excellent, and the adagietto is exceptionally beautiful. The vividly drawn frenzy of the finale is also pleasant, and the performance is of a superb degree of perfection. Studied piano and composition under Hisayoshi Ando and conducting under Masako Endo. In 1987, he won the first prize at the "Toscanini International Competition for Conductors" in Italy. Since then, he has been enchanting audiences with his opera performances and symphony concerts all over the world. He was Music Director of the Royal Opera House of Belgium (Theatre de la Monnaie) from 2002-08, Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique Arturo Toscanini in Italy from 2012-15, Principal Conductor of the Opera National de Lyon in France from 2008-17, and Music Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra from 2015.
