(Original release: 1976/ Ariola)Mary McGregor is a female singer from St. Paul, Minnesota, who was discovered by Peter Yarrow of PP&M. Her debut album, which included the title track "Memories of Days gone by," a #1 hit in the U.S., was co-produced by Yarrow and Barry Beckett and recorded at Muscle Shoals. The Muscle Shoals rhythm section, including Beckett, creates a sophisticated, earthy sound, and McGregor's soft voice, which comes from a folk background, creates a supreme space. Later, she also sang the ending song "Sayonara" for the Japanese animated film "Sayonara Galaxy Express 999" (1981).
