A recording of a 1973 concert in the Netherlands featuring Jamaican-born, London- and New York-based trumpeter Dizzy Reese and Jimmy Owens, who sparked a fashion revolution in jazz in the ’70s with his flamboyant hairstyles! Jimmy Owens rose to prominence in the late 1960s, joining bands brimming with “blackness” such as Gary Barts’ “Libra” and the Charles Triver Big Band; he is also known as a “funky guy” who led a duo with Kenny Barron. Dizzy Reese is a trumpeter who released leader albums on Blue Note and New Jazz in the 1960s and enjoys immense popularity here in Japan precisely because of his “underground” appeal.
