Meat Puppets, formed in Phoenix, Arizona in 1980, is a band representing the underground of the US alternative scene that greatly influenced Kurt Cobain. Meat Puppets is an alternative rock band formed in Phoenix, Arizona in 1980. The original lineup consisted of brothers Kirkwood (Curt (G/Vo) and Cris (B/Vo)) and Derrick Bostrom (Dr). The brothers and Derrick met Bostrom while in high school and practiced regularly in a shed behind their house. The band started out as a punk rock band, but like many of their SST labelmates, they blended punk with elements of country, psychedelic rock, and 70s hard rock, and developed their own style featuring Curt's distinctive vocals. The band's debut album, Meat Puppets, was released on SST in 1982, and in 1991 they moved to the major label London Records, where they released Forbidden Places.In 1993, the Kirkwood brothers gained attention as guest musicians on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged show, and the following year the band released their most successful album, 1994's "Too High to Die, The band reunited again in 2006.
