Billy Valentine & The Universal Truth, a new project featuring the great soul voice Billy Valentine, is released.Acid Jazz is collaborating with Flying Dutchman in a very special collaboration. This will be the first new material from the iconic American label since the 70's. Billy Valentine is one of the great soul voices, and his history is deep and varied. Collaborator Bob Thiele Jr. is the son of legendary producer and Flying Dutchman founder Bob Thiele (John Coltrane, Gil Scott-Heron, etc.), an acclaimed producer and songwriter. His vision was to create a Billy Valentine record that would reflect our times. The project was conceived in the summer of 2020 and was a response to the global pandemic and the death of George Floyd.This is not just a covers album, but a new take on the work of Curtis Mayfield, Gil Scott-Heron, Pharaoh Sanders, and others. Recorded at East West Studios (formerly United Western Recorders), the album was produced and mixed by Dave Way and features outstanding session musicians. The result is both moving and sonically stunning.
