Description:
Bibio and Durian Concept Release Their First Collaborative Album, “ANSWERS”! Steven Wilkinson (Bibio) and Oliver Johnson (Durian Concept) have released their first collaborative album, “Answers,” on Warp Records. Since first meeting in 2009, the two have built a creative relationship over more than 15 years through live performances, shared interests, and a continuous exchange of music and ideas. On *Answers*, their ongoing dialogue has culminated in a fully collaborative work. At its core lies the idea of “looking back at the past to move forward.” Based in Vienna, Wolverhampton, and the Welsh countryside, the two exchanged songs, videos, and ideas via email, WhatsApp, and shared folders. They developed the music through an intuitive process of listening, transforming, and responding—each reacting to what the other sent. The catalyst for this collaboration was Wilkinson’s viewing of the 2022 video work “LetItAllGo” by the Dorian Concept. This led Wilkinson to propose a collaborative audio-visual project to Johnson, and from there, as VIVIO, he contributed guitar to Dorian Concept’s 2025 release, “Miniatures.” This creative process also extended to the visual works that accompany the album. Wilkinson and Johnson co-produced five video pieces. Making full use of analog and early digital video cameras, VHS-C, MiniDV, VJ equipment, video mixers, and even modified analog video equipment, they actively incorporated the glitches, imperfections, unexpected visual distortions, and artifacts produced by aging equipment. The footage shot in their immediate surroundings served as source material for processing and layering, transforming natural landscapes and casual, everyday moments into new forms of visual expression through both analog and digital processes. *Please note that the track lists differ between the domestic CD and the import CD and LP.
