The great master Blomstedt, who is approaching his 90th birthday, works with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra on Beethoven's Symphonies No. 6 "The Countryside" & No. 7 The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious orchestras, boasts one of the oldest traditions of its kind in the world. Blomstedt has earned tremendous trust as chef of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra during his seven-year tenure from 1998 to 2005. He continues to regularly take the podium as Honorary Conductor. This video is a live performance of Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 6 and 7 at their home Gewandhaus Concert Hall in 2016 and 2015. In the lyrical and vital "Rural" and the tense and propulsive No. 7, Blomstedt's long arms spread wide as he conducts, one can sense his resilient energy. Blomstedt will celebrate his 90th birthday in July 2017.ACCENTUS MUSIC and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra commemorate this occasion with the release of Blomstedt's Beethoven, beginning with the "9th" on New Year's Eve 2015. This is the second release of this disc. It will be followed by a video of the Fifth Symphony and the Triple Concerto (Faust, Kellas, and Helmchen), and then the complete Beethoven symphonies on CD just before his birthday to celebrate the glory of the great master. This is Blomstedt's second recording of Beethoven, as he has not recorded any Beethoven during his tenure with the orchestra and has recorded the complete works with the Staatskapelle Dresden.
