A video celebrating the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler's birth and the 100th anniversary of his death will be released on Blu-ray and DVD. This video is from a concert held in February 2010 to celebrate Mahler's 150th anniversary. Performed by Pierre Boulez and the Cleveland Orchestra were the complete Lieder "The Wonderful Horns of a Child" and the Adagio from Symphony No. 10. Pierre Boulez celebrated his 85th birthday on March 26, one month after this concert, and showed no signs of age in his beautiful conducting. The video also shows the splendor of Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra, which has a reputation for being one of the most beautiful and acoustically excellent in the world. Mahler began composing the Tenth Symphony in 1910, after he had finished the Ninth Symphony, but it was not completed until Mahler's death in 1911. The video reveals Mahler's shock at the revelation of Alma's infidelity during the composition of the Tenth Symphony.In the song cycle "The Wonderful Horn of the Child," the source of Mahler's music, Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožener and German baritone Christian Gerhaherl provide fine singing with precision and expression.
