Pianist Herbert Schiff, who has attracted attention for his innovative concert programs and CD recordings, is celebrating his Beethoven Anniversary! This unique program combines Beethoven's Piano Sonatas No. 8 "Pathetique", No. 16, and No. 17 "Tempest", each accompanied by three contemporary works (one of them in pops style)! The three contemporary works are a unique program, as they are consciously or unconsciously connected to Beethoven's works from across the centuries. The "Pathetique Variations" by Mike Garson (longtime friend of David Bowie and former keyboardist for the band) is particularly beautiful. The simple beauty of Beethoven's melody stands out in this pop-style improvisation based on the theme of the slow movement of the Pathetique Sonata. Tokyo M-Plus
