The latest recording by the maestro Sukrovaczewski, following the complete Beethoven symphonies, is the first recording of Schumann's complete symphonies! Has there ever been a performance so energetic, so full of youthful vitality, so passionate in its expression? This disc is a project that Sukrovachevski took up at his own previous request after the completion of the complete Beethoven symphonies, and is the first of the complete Schumann symphonies, No. 4 and No. 1 "Spring", which he will take up in a concert with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.Skrowaczewski's Schumann was recorded by Mercury in the 1960s in the Piano Concerto (Janis & Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra) and the Cello Concerto (Starker & London Symphony Orchestra), but the only live recording of the Fourth Symphony with the NHK Symphony Orchestra was released on CD (Altus, 1996). This is his first studio recording of the symphonies, and his masterful performance, which is full of energy, youthful vitality, and passionate expressiveness that one would not expect from an 83 year old, is very moving! ［Comment courtesy of BMG Japan.]
