Mahler Symphony No. 5 for 18 players arranged by Klaus Zimon! German-born pianist and conductor Klaus Zimon has arranged a chamber orchestral version of "Mahler: Symphony No. 5" for 18 musicians, and the arrangement by Zimon, who is particularly good at 20th century music, does not lose the depth of sound of Mahler's large-ensemble music, and is rather more like the original. The arrangement is so astonishing that it makes one think that the chamber orchestral version is more balanced with the strings than the original. Of course, one of the reasons for this is the fact that the arranger himself conducted. Furthermore, Zimon's experience in playing and studying many modern and contemporary works by Schoenberg, Pfitzner, Rihm, and others is also evident in his performance of these works. The composition is written for 18 players, including accordion and piano, as in the small-format version of Symphony No. 9 (ARS38155S), which also made a splash in the Ensemble Mini recording.The Horst Sinfonietta was founded in Freiburg in 1996 by conductor Klaus Zimon. The orchestra has a permanent drummer and sound engineer, and its sound is the ideal of a modern chamber orchestra.
