After seven years, the recording of the complete works on modern organ is complete with a glittering and majestic grand finale. Peter Kofler's recording of the complete Bach organ works, which began in 2017, is finally complete. The organ in Kofler's home church, St. Michael's in Munich, is a 2011 modern organ with four keys and 75 stops. The performance makes full use of the instrument's capabilities to create fresh combinations, bringing out the individuality of all the pieces and making them sound powerful. The CD also features a high-quality recording using Dolby Atmos technology, and its transparency, resolution, and spatiality can be fully appreciated. Kofler says, "The music of Bach, not the performance of modern organs or advanced recording techniques, is at the heart of this project. In this disc, his playing is even more polished, and the compositions leading up to the final disc seem to have been carefully thought out. The last two pieces, BWV 668 and BWV 532, are especially beautiful.The former is the same music as BWV668a, which is included as an appendix after the unfinished fugue in the first edition of C.P.E. Bach's "Technique of Fugue," and is famous for the legend that Bach had his pupil Altonicol dictate it to him on his deathbed. The second half is a performance of BWV668, which has not survived, and is broken off in the middle. It is a very happy and skillful composition that the glorious BWV532 appears after the BWV668a and builds up the climax at the end. There are many other familiar masterpieces such as "Grand Fugue" BWV 542, "Petit Fugue" BWV 578, "Doric" BWV 538, and the arrangement from Vivaldi Op.3-8, BWV 593.
