Description:
Schütz's Prayer in Music during a Time of Warfare that Shook EuropeSchütz's "Funeral Music" performed by La Petite BandBorn 100 years before the birth of J.S. Bach, Schütz was a leading figure in the early Baroque music world. Born 100 years before the birth of J.S. Bach, Schütz was a leading figure in early Baroque music. He was a composer who established the foundation of German Baroque music, which led to J.S. Bach, at the same time as the Thirty Years' War that devastated Germany. The "Funeral Music" was commissioned by Schütz's lord, Prince Heinrich Reuss Posthommes, for his own funeral. Schütz, who had closely witnessed the deaths of many people due to prolonged warfare and epidemics, has a prayer for the dead that goes beyond his personal feelings and seeps into the hearts of those who hear it. The other five works in the "Funeral Music" collection were also published during the 30 Years War and focus on death and salvation. The music is performed by "La Petite Band" led by Sigiswald Kuijken, a leading expert on ancient musical instruments.Schutz's view of life and death rises in a serene and transparent performance.
