Description:

A superb Brahms Zycles by the renowned Swiss conductor Roman Broglie-Sacher (1966-) and the historic German orchestra Lübeck Philharmonic (founded in 1897), of which he was the music director! Brogli-Sacher has been the Music Director of the Hanseatic City Lübeck since 2001, and from 2007 to 2013, he was the Music Director of the Lübeck Opera House for seven years. (After Broglie-Sacher, Tatsunori Numajiri was appointed as Music Director, and from the 2019/2020 season, Stefan Vladar will take over.) During his tenure as Music Director of the opera house, his "Ring of the Nibelung" production and DVD project was highly praised by various circles and won the 2012 German ECHO Prize. In this performance, he portrays Brahms in an authentic performance with a Romanticism that is unmistakably Brahmsian. Please also note the excellent recording that captures the texture of the sound. The Brahms Symphony Zycles by Broglie-Sacher & the Lübeck Philharmonic is part of the "Lübeck Philharmonic Live" series, and this album is the 13th volume of the series. The unique feature of this cycle is that it combines Brahms's symphonies with works by other composers in accordance with the album's theme. The theme of this album is "Sorrowful Switzerland," and Brahms' "Symphony No. 2" is coupled with "Concerto in Fantasy Style" by Otmar Scheck, a Swiss composer active in the 20th century. The work is dedicated to the Hungarian violinist Steffi Gayer, whom the young Scheck had feelings for, and is an undiscovered masterpiece of Swiss Romanticism that combines lyricism and passion.
