Pianist of the Year, Krutyshev, Makes Long-Awaited Concerto Debut Milokhlav Krutyshev, winner of the top prize at the Grieg 2007 13th International Tchaikovsky Competition, is finally here with a concerto. Krutyshev is a native of Petersburg, but his artistic style is distinct from so-called Russian pianism. He is a technical pianist, of course, but he has a beautiful touch and a unique, colorful phrasing, and in Grieg's concerto, the second theme of the first movement, the second movement, and the second theme of the third movement are exceptionally rich in flavor and numbing in their beauty. It is rare today to find a pianist who can create such mysterious nuances, and among the many masterful performances of the same piece, this is one of the few that is as lustrous as this. However, this is not a performance that is drowned in sentimentality, but rather a performance that is neatly written in block style and full of reassurance. Norwegian conductor Ivin Gullberg Jensen provides exquisite support.This is an album that cannot be avoided when discussing Grieg's concertos in the future. King International
