Albrecht & WDR's Dvorak Opera Series "The Devil and Katya"! Albrecht, "a lover of rare operas," has been making a big commitment to Dvořák's operas, and now his sixth recording of the complete works is finally available. The Devil and Katya" was first performed in 1899. Despite its odd title, it is a very funny comedy. Albrecht brings out the modernity of Dvořák, who was actually a great Wagnerian, by bringing out the refined sound of the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra, while keeping Dvořák's Bohemian colors alive. The role of Katja is played by South African-born German mezzo-soprano Breit, whose recent success as Cherubino in "Le Nozze di Figaro" at the New National Theatre in April 2005 was well received. Peter Straka as Dolka is a German tenor, a veteran of Zurich since the 1970s.She frequently appears in Czech-language operas and is even mistaken for "Péter Straka" and a Czech. Romanko is a soprano from Moscow who came to the West at the end of the 1980s and has been active. Tosca is a hit role. Kocinyan is from Armenia and was a bass in the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
