Description:
Butterfly in Yulinacz! Janowitz's Kate! The Viennese Puccini of yesteryear is back! The master conductor Klobuchar is also a notable conductor, and ORFEO has dug up another great recording! This is a live recording of "Madama Butterfly" performed at the Vienna State Opera on March 15, 1961. Sena Jurinacci sings Madame Butterfly. When she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1957, she sang "Madame Butterfly" to great acclaim, and the role was such a hit that for a while, "Madame Butterfly in Vienna is known as Yurinacci. Pinkerton was played by Ermanno Lorenzi, an Italian tenor who had been with the Vienna State Opera for more than 20 years. Sharpless was Costas Paskalis, a Greek-born Verdi baritone in the 1960s and 1970s. Suzuki is veteran Viennese mezzo Hilde Lessel-Maidan.And Kate Pinkerton is Gundula Janowitz, who is only 23 years old! The surprise was the conducting of master conductor Berislav Klobuchar, who for 40 years was the conductor of the Vienna State Opera, originally conducting "Madama Butterfly" on May 15, 1953. One cannot help but weep for the scale majestic Puccini, which was handed down from his senior and master Matacich in his hometown! [Comments courtesy of King International] ----.
