Offenbach (1819-1880)
Description:
Enjoy the beauty of Offenbach's melodies in this duet for two cellos performed by Gastinel and Xavier Philippe! Offenbach (1819-1880), the composer of the famous "Orphée de l'inferno" (Heaven and Hell), was so skilled on the cello that he has been called the "Franz Liszt of the cello world". Between 1839 and 1855, Offenbach published his "Duet Directions for Two Cellos" in six collections, each of which is assigned a grade from A to F, indicating the degree of difficulty of playing, with the difficulty increasing in stages throughout the entire work. The six pieces are arranged in order of difficulty, from A to F. All of the pieces are filled with beautiful melodies reminiscent of operetta arias, and the accompanying parts require superb technique to support them. The melody and accompaniment parts are often interchanged, requiring a high level of technique and musicality from both players. The six pieces included here were carefully selected from three collections (difficulty levels C, E, and F). Xavier Philippe invited Gastinel to record with him for the first time, and the result is a recording that allows us to enjoy Offenbach's melodic beauty to the fullest.Xavier Philippe was born in Paris in 1971. He studied under Rostropovich for many years. He has won prizes at international competitions and has performed with renowned musicians such as Muti, Gergiev, and Eschenbach. He also places great emphasis on chamber music. In addition to his activities as a performer, he has been a professor at the Ecole Superieure de Musique de Lausanne, Sion since 2013. He is the brother of Jean-Marc-Philippe Weijabedian, the violinist of the Trio Vandalers. Anne Gastinel was born near Lyon in 1971. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, she went on to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. In 1997, Maroua Casals Istomin loaned her the Matteo Goffriller, Pablo Casals' favorite instrument, for one year. 2006, In 2006, he was named "Soloist of the Year" at the Victoires de la Musique. In 2003, he was appointed professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lytton. King International
