Philippe Cassard The Schubert of the last year of Schubert's life, 1828 Philippe Cassard was born in France in 1962. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Dominique Merlet and Geneviève Joie. He was a prize winner at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in 1985 and won the first prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition in 1988. She has toured all over the world, including Japan. Recent visits to Japan include La Folle Journée Festival. He appeared on Radio France's "Notes du Traducteur" (Translator's Notes) music program about 400 times, in which he played the piano and gave commentary in a style that was also passionate about Schubert, and was very well received. The music on this disc was completed in 1828, the year of Schubert's death.The D959 Sonata is a work with a full and rich style that evokes gratitude and respect for Beethoven, who had died the previous year (March 1827), while the Cassales, with the bright tone of a French pianist, illuminate the charms of Schubert's last masterpieces. Except for the D959 sonata, the other works are for piano duo. The other pianist is Lausanne-born Cédric Péchaud, who plays with Schubert. They are in perfect synch from the first chords of "The Storm of Life". The haunting melancholic melody of the Fantasy in F minor is also beautiful, and the final piece, with its heart-rending intensity, is a treat to listen to all at once. King International
