Description:
Scholar and Renowned Performer The Complete Partitas by Robert Levin! The complete Bach Partitas performed by Robert Levin, a Mozart scholar and renowned pianist (who also plays the fortepiano). Levin is also a scholar known for his editorial work on Mozart’s compositions (including the reconstruction of the “Concerto-Symphony,” the editing of the Requiem, and the authoring of editorial reports on keyboard works that incorporate performance interpretations). He is a virtuoso who has performed on the fortepiano in recordings such as the “Mozart: Piano Concertos with Hogwood and the Complete Beethoven Piano Concertos with Gardiner. Given Levin’s reputation as a scholar, one can’t help but pay close attention to the ornamentation. Even the opening Sinfonia of Partita No. 2 in C minor sounds less like ornamentation and more like improvisation. Furthermore, this complete set of Partitas showcases Levin’s unique perspective, including the inclusion of alternative versions for certain pieces. The booklet features an interview in which Levin discusses the Partitas (in English and French only; no Japanese translation is available). Needless to say, the performances throughout are superb.
