Volume 162 of the definitive series selected by Diapason! A collection of Rachmaninoff's masterpieces including his own compositions! Diapason, a French world-class classical music magazine, selects and reissues newly mastered masterpieces of historical masterpieces from the history of music in the series "Les Indispensables de Diapason - Diapason's Choice of the Definitive Works". This volume, the 162nd in the series, is a Rachmaninoff selection. Among Rachmaninoff's many self-performances, Diapason chose "Piano Concerto No. 4," recorded in December 1941 with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. This recording was not included in the label's "Rachmaninoff: Symphonies & Piano Concertos" box set (DIAPCF012). The "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" was performed not by Rachmaninoff himself, but by William Capell, a genius pianist who died prematurely. The "Symphonic Dances" are also well-known historical masterpieces performed by Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Rachmaninoff dedicated this work to this duo with whom he had a very close relationship. Tokyo M-Plus
