Description:
Ryuichi Sakamoto's special talent was recognized worldwide long ago, but with his passing, some people are finally realizing the artist's greatness. Longtime fans of the maestro, they began to question his work in 2020 with the goal of getting inside his music and taking it to new, unexplored dimensions. The timing of this release, coming after the death of one of the world's most beloved contemporary Japanese composers, is fortuitous. While the album can certainly stand as a de facto tribute to his singular career and person, that was not the original intent. This is not a somber eulogy, but a record for the future, full of lively possibilities. It seeks to continue the musical conversation now that the composer is gone. This is a tribute album, so to speak, consisting of 11 songs in total, all composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto (including some co-compositions). Performers : Asynchrone Clément Petit : cello Frédéric Soulard : synths Hugues Mayot : saxophones, bass clarinet Delphine Joussein : flutes Manuel Peskine : piano Vincent Taeger : drums It is interesting to note that this French six-piece group concentrates on works released between 1978 and 1983, at the beginning of their career. The album "A Thousand Knives" ~ "B-2 Unit" ~ "Dream on the Left Udder", including three songs from the Yellow Magic Orchestra days, and TR4, 8 have vocals as the original songs. Michael Jackson and Greg Philigenes covered the well-known songs "Behind the Mask," "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," and "Riot in Lagos," as well as Deep Cuts such as "Neue Tanz," "Once in a Lifetime," and "Différencia. The album includes not only well-known songs such as "Behind the Mask," "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," and "Riot in Lagos," but also Deep Cuts such as "Neue Tanz," "Once in a Lifetime," and "Différencia. The only work featured after 1983, when he expanded his activities as a film musician and solo artist worldwide, is TR9, from 2017's "async," and as the name of this group and Sakamoto's album title are derived from the same root word, literally. The group's core member, Frédéric Soulard, has worked on various releases by the French label Tigersushi, as well as the latest works by Lucas Santtana and Msaki+Tubatsi, while another core member, Clément Petit, has worked with Romane, Ara Ni, Lisa Papineau (Jun Miyake He is one of the most adaptable and innovative cellists working in France today, having worked with Romane, Ara Ni, Lisa Papineau (Jun Miyake's recent work), Ben Roncoursoul, Brick Bassi, and others.
