Israeli bass prodigy Avishai CohenAs with his previous album, the trio continues with a new lineup featuring Azerbaijani pianist Erchin Shirinov and new young female drummer Roni Caspi. Avichai Cohen, one of the most talented bass players of his generation from Israel. Avishai Cohen's symphonic album "Two Roses", which he described as "a once-in-a-lifetime project", was released last year to worldwide acclaim. Returning to his roots as a trio from his previous album, in which he led an orchestra, this album was produced with a new trio, his trusted Yelchin Shirinov and a young female drummer, Roni Caspi, who joined the band on the summer tour of 2021. The songs on the album were composed by Avishai Cohen on piano at his home near Jerusalem during the pandemic. Jazz, classical, and Israeli roots music, fresh and expansive melody lines with a somewhat melancholy Israeli feel, and diverse and sophisticated rhythms.Building on a foundation of contemporary musical elegance that only Avishai Cohen can achieve, the band showcases an exquisite combination of piano with the unique touch phrasing of Yelchin Shirinov and the extended and uninhibited drumming of newcomer Roni Caspi. Says Avishai Cohen. 'The time I spent with Shai and Mark was very special. But honestly, I think that magic is happening again with this trio now. First of all, Erchin Shirinov from Azerbaijan is a wonderful pianist in his own right. He is very focused and confident, and I think it comes through. Then I met drummer Roni Caspi. She's only 21, but she's a new spirit with exceptional talent and a strong personality." The minor-key, melancholy "Dvash" is available only on the CD, and "Lokum" only on the LP.
