Pierrick Pedron, a leading French alto saxophonist who has made a comeback from electronic sounds to the authentic jazz sound and was awarded "Artist of the Year" at the "Victoires du Jazz," France's prestigious jazz awards in 2021. Skyline" won the Grammy Award for "Best Jazz Instrumental Album" at the 64th Grammy Awards. The release of this duo album is a memorable first collaboration between these two contemporary jazz greats, who had never even spoken to each other before entering the studio in New York. The two musicians perform covers of Sidney Bechet's "Si tu vois ma mere" and Carla Bley's "Lawns" in a way that makes it hard to believe that this is their first time working together. The beautiful and serene cover of "Lawns," arranged by French pianist Laurent Cusariac, who studied with Alain Jean Marie and Barry Harris, "the most beautiful chords for the most beautiful hands," as a tribute, is a must-hear.
